State government abolished border check-posts

Saturday, July 1, 2017

With the GST that came into force on Saturday, the State government disbanded the border check-posts on Saturday.

There are 21 border check posts in the State. The government issued a GO on June 29 abolishing the check-posts in conformity with decisions taken at the GST Council. The border checks are not required as the VAT is subsumed in the GST. Also, the VAT was repealed except in respect of liquor and petroleum products. The need for exclusive check-posts of CT does not arise in view of the GST.
