State Cabinet meeting – Chief Minister orders stringent action against sand mafia

The State Cabinet today has decided to take stringent measures to implement the government’s ambitious free sand policy.

Addressing the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu today ordered to arrest those involved in such illegal activities. The government has decided to provide sand free of cost and collect only transportation charges form the user. But, the transporters and the sand mafia are collecting exorbitant rates from the end users, he said.

The State Cabinet has decided to constitute a four-member committee comprising District Collector, Superintendent of Police, Transport Official and Assistant Director (Mines) in very district. The committee would oversee the charges being collected by the transporters while delivering the sand. The committee would fixe price for loading and unloading and transportation.

Briefing the decisions of the State Cabinet, Minister for Information and Public Relations Kaluva Srinivasulu said that the meeting cleared proposal to provide Rs.25,000 to each beneficiary with a view to completing construction of the houses that were taken before 2014. The State government would release Rs.500 for this purpose. It will benefit over 1.15 lakh poor families.

He said that the government would pay Rs.2,500 pension per month to persons suffering from chronic kidney disease. The patients who were undergoing dialysis in government hospitals for stage 3,4 and 5 were eligible for the pension.

The State government and Indian Council for Medical Research would set up a research centre to study the reasons for kidney ailments. The government would spend Rs.5 crore per annum in the next three years.

The State Cabinet has decided to complete 29 projects before September. In another major decision, the State Cabinet decided to create Special Capital City Infrastructure Development Fund by amending CRDA Sect.25(1), 25(2). Also Sec.21(1) of the Act would be amended to constitute Chief Executive Authority in the CRDA.
