State Cabinet decisions- Government to declare sand as essential commodity

The State Cabinet that met on Wednesday has decided to bring sand under the Essential Commodities Act. There are 154 sand reaches in the State and the government would notify the sand available in these reaches. People are permitted to take sand free of cost from them.

  • The State Cabinet has decided to appoint Chief Justice of High Court as Vice Chancellor of Damodaram Sanjeevaiah National Law University in Visakhapatnam.
  • An IC-2 incubation centre would be set up at Tirupati.
  • To punish the red sanders smugglers, the government fixed the fine and sentences and the guilty would have to pay Rs.3 lakh as fine and serve a five year imprisonment for the first time offence. For the second time, the guilty would have to pay a fine of Rs.5 lakh and serve a seven year imprisonment. For the third time offense, the guilty would have to pay Rs.10 lakh as fine and 10 years imprisonment.
  • The Cabinet decided to lay 29,000 km length road network under the NREGS in the next five years.
