Dr.K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao has moved a private member Bill on Special Category Status in Rajya Sabha on Friday alleging that the Centre was dilly dallying on the issue citing one excuse or other.
Speaking on the issue, he said that Andhra Pradesh State Government was eagerly waiting for the grant of Special Category Status that would ensure accelerated development. He recalled the assurances given in Parliament during the passage of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act but several of them remained unfulfilled so far. He reminded that the Union Minister for Urban Development M.Venkaiah Naidu emphasized the need for providing Special Category Status to the State for ten years not five years to ensure speedy development of the new State.
He charged that Venkaiah Naidu however, conveniently ignored the issue after coming to power he alleged. Another Congress MP from Telangana State Rapolu Ananda Bhaskar too supported the cause. He said that the Centre should not only accord Special Category Status but also provide grants for construction of the new capital liberally.
