According to sources, the upper castes have allegedly announced social boycott of Dalits, snapped the water supply pipeline to the SC colony ad threatened to slap a fine of Rs.5,000 on villagers who interact with them and the traders in Naganandini village in Rudravaram mandal of Kurnool district.
The upper castes have announced the boycott after Pulanna and Elisha who eke out a living by digging pits in the village grave yard refused to do so because of ill health to bury the body of a nonagenarian Bala Thimmaiah who died on Saturday. Enraged at their refusal, the villagers broke the pipeline causing hardship to 14 Dalit families and the aggrieved lodged a complaint in the police station.
Kula Vivaksha Vyatireka Porata Samithi district general secretary M.D.Anand Babu flayed the social boycott and demanded registration of a case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against those responsible. He said that he appraised SC/ST Commission Chairman Karem Sivaji on the issue.
