Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to develop model schools in the State

Andhra Pradesh State Project Director of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) V.B.Ramana Murty said that a total of 3,843 elementary schools in the State have been identified for development as ‘model schools’.

Ramana Murty said that the target is set to develop all the model schools by March end and under this, the existing infrastructure through provision of additional classrooms, toilets, drinking water, computers and maintaining healthy teacher-student ratio are among the initiatives taken up. He said that the main object of the SSA is to provide fee education in the age group of 6-14 years. He said that girls education is being taken care of through the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidayalayas and there are 352 vidayalayas in the State. These are residential schools where food and accommodation needs of the students are met. He said that a decision was taken to go for global tenders for supply of uniforms to students of elementary schools.

48th National level finance controllers’ conference
The 48th National level finance controllers’ conference got underway here on Thursday. Delegates from various States are participating in the two-day conference being organized by the AP Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. Principal Secretary, School Education, R.P.Sisodia participated as chief guest. Under Secretary in the HRD Ministry Manjeet Kumar said that the objective of the conference was to discuss various financial aspects of the SSA.
