SRM University to be functional from this academic year

SRM University was today inaugurated by the Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister M.Venkaiah Naidu here.

This is the first university to be functional in Amaravati from this academic year with B.Tech course. Of the total built-up area of 7 lakh square feet, construction of 3 lakh square feet has been completed in a record time of five months.

In the inaugural speech University Chancellor T.R.Pachamuthu said the SRM group of educational institutions was having four universities and 25 colleges with over 65,000 students on its rolls and 10,000 plus employees. He said that Amaravathi campus is going to be an iconic one designed by Perkins and Will which shaped many great buildings such as universities of Cornell, Pennsylvania and South California. He proposed to set up a teaching hospital in Amaravati in 100 acres. The Chief Minister responding to his appeal said that the proposal would be cleared in the next Cabinet meeting.

On CSR activities, Pachamuthu said that SRMU would provide health care facilities to the residents of 30 villages in the vicinity, give Rs.5,000 each per annum to 100 up-and-coming sports persons, and provide free education to 13 girls one each from 13 districts of the State.
