Rishiteswari suicide case – Police files charge sheet

The sensational Acharya Nagarjuna University B.Arch. Student M. Rishiteswari who committed suicide due to ragging, the Guntur police have filed charge sheet.

The police in their charge sheet filed in the court confirmed the role of Principal, College of Architecture and Planning G. Babu Rao’s who was negligent during their investigation. They named him as A-4 in the case after examining 51 witnesses in the case.

The salient features of the charge sheet are that the seniors have harassed Rishiteswari along with her roommates Sujata, A.Kusumalata to vacate their room. Rishiteswari father Murali Krishna has convinced the seniors but were refused and the former complained of the ragging to the Principal who was negligent in the issue. In April 18, 2014 Freshets’ Day celebrations at Hailand, senior students have indecently behaved with the victim and the principal in a drunken condition danced with the students. All this was happened in the presence of the Principal who was a silent spectator, said the police. In the charge sheet submitted to the court, police said that the Principal Babu Rao was absconding.

It may be recalled that Guntur Urban Police have so far slapped charges against three students Dumpa Hanisha, Dharavath Jaicharan and Narala Srinivas. The accused have been charged under Section 306 of Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of Prevention of Ragging Act for allegedly abetting the suicide that took place on July 14, 2015. They were arrested on August 16, two days after the body of Rishiteswari was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her hostel room on the university campus.
