AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi today addressing a meeting here said that the Special Category Status to the State is not a gift but a right.

Addressing a huge gathering along with top Opposition leaders like Samajwadi Party national president and former Chief Minister of UP Akhilesh Yadav, JDU former president and MP Sharad Yadav, RJD MP Jayaprakash Yadav, DMK leader Elangovan and CPI national leaders D.Raja and Suravaram Sudhakara Reddy at the Andhra Muslim College Campus, he said that Narendra Modi who spoke of protecting Hindu Dharma went back on a promise made to the people of the State in the presence of Lord Venkateswara Swamy in Tirupati before elections.

Rahul explained the benefits of the SCS to the State said that 90 per cent of the funds would be given to the State as grant and not as loan. He said that the Centre should foot the entire bill for Polavaram but the Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu did not want it. He asked the two parties ie., TDP and YSRCP were not interested in garnering these benefits to the people of the State. He wondered why these are afraid of Modi.

Chandrababu Naidu lashes out Congress:: Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu left no stone unturned to defend the State government’s decision to settle for the special package announced by the Centre in lieu of SCS. His outburst came in the wake of the Opposition parties joining hands with the Congress’s attempt to stoke emotions on the SCS and Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan who campaigned for the TDP and BJP extending support to the cause. Chandrababu said that the Centre was also extending all possible help. The government agreed to the special package as the Centre promised assistance equivalent to the SCS, he said.

Rahul’s innocence once again revealed:: Taking a strong exception of Rahul Gandhi’s speech, YSRCP official spokesperson Ambati Rambabu said that Rahul Gandhi has no idea of the State’s political situation. He reminded that Jagan Mohan Reddy was fighting for the SCS for the last three years right from the street to National Capital is known to everyone. He said that YSRCP is the only party that was fighting for the cause for the past three years by taking up various sorts of agitational methods. In a statement release, he said that Rahul Gandhi should have discussed with his cadre before making an allegation on the party in his speech.
