Raghuveera Reddy and Chiranjeevi arrested

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president N.Raghuveera Reddy and Rajya Sabha member K.Chiranjeevi who arrived here by a special flight from Begumpet were arrested at Madhurapudi airport.

Tension prevailed with heavy force of Congress activists sat outside the airport. They arrived here to proceed to Kirlampudi to extend support to the fasting Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham and his wife Padmavati. The activists threatened to protest if they were shifted to police station and demanded the police to allow them to proceed. The police took them into custody u/s 151.

Meanwhile, the police has surrounded the hotel in which former Union Minister Dasari Narayana Rao who came here to extend solidarity to the fasting Kapu leader. He was obstructed at several places on the way including at Nandigama but arrived here via Khammam, Sattupalli.

TDP leaders Kala Venkata Rao and State Minister for Labour Atcham Naidu, MLA Thota Trimurtulu, MLC Boddu Bhaskara Rama Rao arrived at the residence of Mudragada to have talks with him on behalf of the government. Sources said that a fresh demand surfaced to lift the cases registered by State and Railway police in connection with the arson in which Ratnachal Express bogies and police vehicles were set ablaze.
