Minister for Transport Siddha Raghavarao said that a non-descript Venktatachalampalli in Prakasam will host the first of the three training Institutes of Driver Training and Research (IDTR), first of its kind in South Asia.

The other two will come up at Visakhapatnam and Rayalaseema region in the next phase. The project that cost Rs.18.51 crore is the joint project of the Union and State Governments. A society floated by Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., will runt he IDTR with the State of the art equipment including stimulators to provide scientific training to drivers. A MoU has been entered into with the Maruti Suzuki to run the IDTR on non-profit and self-sustaining basis.

A demo corridor was being developed with the World Bank assistance from Renigunta in Chittoor district to Kadapa, he said. The IDTR will be completely operational by 2018 would train 500 trainers of driving schools as also 1,000 new drivers of heavy and light vehicles, he said.
