The Telugu Desam Party has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against a vernacular daily and satellite channel alleging that they are publishing and telecasting paid articles/news. In a letter to the Election Commission of India on Sunday, TDP secretary (office coordination) said a large number of complaints to the election authorities against the newspaper and channel. However, the EC hadn’t taken any action against the newspaper and channel. The ECI has to calculate the amount and treat the same as election expenditure of YSRCP candidate and initiate appropriate penal action against the concerned, he said.
Probe in the allegation of Balakrishna distribution money to voters:: Inquiry has been completed into a complaint filed against Hindupur MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna alleged distributed money to voters during the road show in Nandyal according ot Returning Officer Prasanna Venkatesh. The report had been sent to the District Collect and District Election Officer S.Satyanarayana who would forward the same to the Election Commission, he said.
Returning Officer allays apprehensions on display on VVPAT:: The Returning Officer Prasanna Venkatesh said that the voter alone can see the display on the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trial unit showing the party to which the vote was cast. Hence, voters, need not entertain any fear that their choice of vote can be seen by others, he said. The Electronic Voting Machine and the VVPAT unit would be in a secret compartment and none other the voter could see the display, he said. The printed voter slip generated by the VVPAT unit would automatically fall into a sealed box and only the Election Commission of India would have access to it, he said.
Congress demands cancellation of by-election:: Meanwhile, APCC president N.Raghuveera Reddy, former Union Ministers Kotla Jayasuryaprakash Reddy and J.D.Seelam and APCC vice-president N.Tulasi Reddy lodged a complaint with the EC observer today alleging unbridled distribution of money and liquor among the voters by the TDP and YSRCP in violation of code of conduct and enclosed audio and video evidence to substantiate their charges. They staged a demonstration before the office of the Returning Officer for the Nandyal by-election Prasanna Venkatesh, demanding that the election be cancelled.
