The Andhra Pradesh State Assembly on Wednesday passed a bill enhancing the salaries and allowances of the legislators.
According to the new structure, the salary component of the MLAs/MLCs has been increased from the existing Rs.95,000 to Rs.1.25 lakh a month. The house rent allowance for them has also been doubled from Rs.25,000 to Rs.50,000 as also was the case with the pension which has been increased to Rs.50,000 from the present Rs.25,000. The vehicle purchase/house building advance has been enhanced from Rs.10 lakh to Rs.20 lakh while pension for widow/widower has been fixed at Rs.25,000.
The government had accepted the recommendations after pruning some of them. It may be recalled that the Amenities committee had recommended the salary component to be made Rs.1.50 lakh, the government limited it to Rs.1.25 lakh. Another recommendation on house building/vehicle advance has also been pruned from the recommended Rs.40 lakh to Rs.20 lakh.
