Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan speaking to media after visiting the project site today has demanded the State government release a White Paper on Polavaram project and prove its credibility and accountability.
He said that if the government was transparent, it should come out with White Paper explain the escalation of the project cost, relief and rehabilitation package, expenditure and other details. He asked when the Union government was seeking details about the expenditure of funds it had released, why was the government afraid to provide details. ‘If you are not ready to provide details, it will raise suspicion in the minds of the people about the government’s credibility and integrity’, he said.
When the Centre declared the project as a national project, Chandrababu said that the State would take up its construction. Now, he says that the State is ready to hand over the project back to the Centre. Such statements will only send wrong signals’, he said. Irregularities, misappropriations and kick-backs were common in irrigation projects and he urged the government to form an all-party committee and take it to Polavaram and explain the real situation. He said that if the government was clean, he was ready to join hands with it in questioning the Centre.
