Andhra Pradesh Minister for Health Kamineni Srinivas said that the outpatient services will be available from April 11 at the Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences.
Srinivas said that it would operate as a super specialty hospital and research institute of the NTR University of Health Sciences. He said that the Chief Minister had suggested that VIMS be brought under the purview of the UHS in view of the fact that the land allocated for the UHS hospital at Mangalagiri had been given for construction of AIIMS. On filling of vacancies of faculty in government medical colleges, he said that there is a shortage of associate professors and the government is making efforts to sort it out. He said that there are plans to upgrade the services in all government area hospitals and also install security features like RFID wristbands on newborns to curb the threat of kidnap. The Minister said that the government has signed contracts for maintenance of equipment to ensure minimal downtime. If any of the equipment cannot be repaired it would be replaced, he said.
