No-trust motion on Assembly Speaker lost

As 97 members have said no on the motion while 57 said ‘yes’ to the motion said Mandali Buddha Prasad who was in chair declared that the motion is lost. He invited Dr. Kodela Siva Prasada Rao to come and occupy the chair. It may be recalled that no-trust motion notice was served today morning and voting has been taken up in the evening.

Immediately after the Speaker received notice earlier in the day, announced that he would be take up the issue today itself. Leader of the Opposition, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy objected and quoted rules. He said that leave for taking up the motion should be granted after a minimum of 14 days of giving notice. The 14-day period was meant to issue a whip and facilitate disqualification of members who defied it. He accused that the government of using Speaker’s positon to protect eight his party MLAs who crossed to the ruling party.

Minister for Legislative Affairs Yanamala Ramakrishnudu said the House was the supreme authority while moving a motion for suspending Rules 71(2) and 72 (3) which was adopted by voice vote. Dr.Kodela Siva Prasada Rao assured that he would be impartial and sought the cooperation of the Opposition although he was little anguished by the no trust motion.

21 MLAs including 8 defected YSRCP MLAs absent:: When the no confidence motion against the Speaker was taken up out of a total of 175 members, 154 were present in the House. 21 MLAs including the eight who defected were absent. One member from YSRCP and 11 from the ruling TDFP. The YSRCP has 67 members eight of whom were defected while MLA R.K.Roja did not attend the House due to her suspension.
