The Centre has agreed in principle to establish a regional chapter of National School of Drama at Rajahmundry following a request by the Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu.
Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Y.S.Chowdary, AP Government’s special representative in Delhi Kambhampati Rammohana Rao, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and MPs Murali Mohan, J.C.Diwakar Reddy and C.M.Ramesh called on the Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Mahesh Sharma in Delhi on Monday and requested him to set up a regional chapter at Rajahmundry.
Chandrababu Naidu in a letter to the Union Minister Sharma said that Rajamahendravaram has been historically noted place for arts and cultural movements. The great stalwarts like Nannayya, the first poet who translated Mahabharata into Telugu made this city as his abode. He said that it would be in fitness of things if the National School of Dram, New Delhi was directed to open a regional chapter offering regular courses.
