The district administration has made elaborate arrangements for the counting of Nandyal by-elections today at Nandyal Polytechnic College.
Even though the main contest is between YSRCP and TDP, as many 15 candidates are in the fray including Bhuma Brahmananda Reddy of TDP, Silpa Mohan Reddy of YSRCP and Gaddam Abdul Khader of the Congress.
The counting will begin at 8am and according to sources that as many as 1,73,179 persons have exercised their franchise and were stored in 255 EVMs taking 79.13% of votes. The administration has arranged LED screens and three-layer security was provided. There will be a total of 19 rounds and each round will have 14 tables. First 250 postal ballots will be counted and then EVMs. The results are expected at around 10.30am.
Going into statistics of polling, out of 1,73,179 votes polled, 1,05,484 votes were polled in Nandyal Urban followed by 1,512 votes in Nandyal Rural and 26,193 votes in Gospadu mandal.
The police have made tight security arrangements to avert any untoward incidents and imposed Section 144 of IPC and Section 30 of the Police Act. The police prohibited victory processions, drumbeats and bursting of crackers after declaration of results.
Large scale betting, running into a few hundred crores was reported on the outcome of the by-election in Kurnool, Kadapa and neighbouring districts.

Jagan Mohan Reddy addressing a press conference at his Lotus Pond office today thanked the voters, party activists who voted for the party despite favours offered by TDP and also threats by the TDP cadre. Jagan congratulated Silpa Chakrapani Reddy and Silpa Mohan Reddy by resigning their positions in the TDP party and joined the YSRCP for the sale of values. He accused that the ruling TDP has indulged in misuse of official machinery, threatening the voters and distribution of money. He alleged that the TDP had spent Rs.200 crore for the victory of the party candidate in Nandyal. He said that the elections are not a referendum and added that Chandrababu should get the MLAs who shifted from YSRCP to TDP and get into the public and if elected will be treated as a referendum, he said.
