Nandyal by-elections – Heavy polling percentage recorded

The Nandyal by-elections held today has registered at around 85 percentage of poling surpassing the previous highest percentage of 73.84% in 1983 elections in all 255 polling stations.

The polling went off well in all the constituencies. Voters turned up right from 6am to exercise their franchise though the polling began at 7am. Women voters surpassed male voters especially women from minority communities turned up in a good number .

According to sources the polling percentage recorded 17% at 9am, 32.4% at 11am., 52.1% at 1pm, 71.91% at 3pm and 77.66% by 5pm. The final polling percentage was not declared even after 8pm as the voters in the queues were permitted to cast their vote.

The Election Commission authorities have immediately rectified 23 EVMs and 14 VVPAT units that developed snags. The EC officials kept track of the polling through live webcasting from the polling stations.

No reportable incident took place in the voting at the polling stations except a minor altercation ensued between the Silpa and Bhuma family members near Atmakur bus stand.

ECI directs registration of case against Jagan::

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India on Wednesday directed registration of a case against Y.S.Jagan Mohan Reddy for his recent objectionable speech in which he remarked that Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu is cunning and like an accused in the court who killed his parents and there is nothing wrong in gunning down such a person on the road’ during his road shows. The ECI said it was fit case for reprimanding and issuing a severe warning to Jagan for his conduct and violating the Model Code of Conduct and that an FIR may be filed against his under the relevant sections of IPC. State Election Officer Bhanwarlal directed the Returning Officer of the concerned to initiate action against Jagan Mohan Reddy.
