Mudragada to resume ‘Chalo Amaravati’ padayatra on August 3

Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham resumed his trademark protest of beating the plate with the spoon to symbolize the starvation among the Kapu community on Sunday.

Earlier, he called upon the Kapu community to stage a similar protest at Tuni to press their demand for inclusion of Kapu community in the list of BCs. With the police foiling his padayatra, he resumed the protest and called upon the community to join him so that the State government would address the issue.

He was accompanied by his family members, members of Kapu JAC and the East Godavari district Congress committee president beat the plate for about half an hour. He said that he would resume the padayatra from August 3.

Meanwhile, the police force was retrained in the village for the fifth consecutive day and the identity check and physical frisking was carried out on those who entered or left the village. BJP MLC Somu Veeraraju said that the government is expected to resolve the issue as the TDP has made a promise to the Kapus during general elections. It is a sensitive issue and need to be dealt with utmost care, he said.
