The Union Government is keen on establishing Medical Devices Park in Visakhapatnam. Joint Secretary, Union Ministry of Health, Jitendra Sharma held talks with the State Health and Family Welfare Commissioner K.V.Satayanaraya on availability of land.
Jitendra Sharma made it clear that under the ‘Make in India’ programme, the centre decided to extend technical support to the States for establishing medical equipment manufacturing parks.
It may be recalled that the Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu during his visit to Delhi last month met the representatives of Association of Indian Medical Devices Manufacturing Association and informed them of the government wish to set up the park with a separate cluster for SMEs. Presently, the medical devices industry is estimated at around Rs.60,000 crore with imports accounting to Rs.23,000 crore.
