MLC graduate constituency elections – Objections in voter list will be verified up to February 13

District Collector and Election Officer Pravin Kumar said that the supplementary electoral list for the MLC election to graduates constituency will be available b February 10 and objections may be raised up to February 13.

District Collector said that following complaint at a meeting ineligible, including diploma-holders and those with wrong date of birth were removed and after a second meeting, another 484 names were deleted. He said polling booths with more than 1200 voters were being identified so as to divide them for setting up of more booths. As of now, 224 polling stations are proposed to be set up for 1,55,957 electors.

Pravin Kumar said that the model Code of Conduct came into force with the announcement of the election schedule and official committees were formed at various levels for overseeing the adherence to the code. The norms that governed the general election were applicable to council election, he said.

It may be recalled that the Election Commission announces schedule for MLC elections.

BJP to seek two seats:: BJP s reportedly seeking two seats in Andhra Pradesh. Apart from the graduates’ constituency from North Andhra districts, the BJP is also seeking a seat from the teachers’ constituency. TDP leadership is also said to be firm on fielding its nominee from North Andhra graduates’ constituency according to sources. The name of PVN Madhav, son of senior BJP leader and party former State president P.V.Chalapati Rao has been doing the rounds. In the last two elections CPI(M) leader M.V.S.Sarma had won from the graduates’ constituency and BJP contested on its own.
