Live worm in food plate served to MLA– Restaurant closed

A live worm was found in the food plate served to the Udayagiri Constituency MLA Bolineni Venkata Rama Rao (TDP) who stayed in the Minerva Grand hotel in idly and poori supplied to him at the ‘Minerva Coffee Shop. ‘

When the MLA complained of the same to the hotel staff who received no quick response complained to the district authorities and food safety authorities on phone and left for Gannavaram airport.

Food safety authorities led by Assistant Food Controller N.Purnachandra Rao visited the hotel and inspected the MLA’s food plate and confirmed that the worm has come along with banana leaf used to serve the food in the plate. Following District Collector’s orders, officials also inspected the kitchen of the restaurant, storeroom, hygiene of the staff and sanitation. They found that the cooked food like carrot halwa, gulab jamun and other sweets preserved in the refrigerator and the hotel was also not ensuing hygiene of the staff. Samples of the poori, curry, wheat flour were sent to laboratory tests.

The hotel was closed temporarily by the Food Safety department.
