LED lighting in 12,900 gram panchayats shortly

  • After one year, Gram Panchayats have to pay to the organizations in a phased manner of the amounts due to it.
  • The organizations that come for installation has to invest money initially.

Andhra Pradesh State Government has decided to replace 21 lakh customary bulbs with LED bulbs in 12,900 gram panchayats at a cost of Rs.600 crore in a phased manner.

The Government is spending Rs.250 crore as power bills to the discoms towards power supply for street lighting in gram panchayats. With the replacement of bulbs with LED, Panchayat Raj department has estimated to bring the cost factor by Rs.150 crore. The proposals sent by the Panchayat Raj has been approved by the State Cabinet recently. In 650 gram panchayats there are 3.30 lakh street lights and for replacing them with LED bulbs, it would cost Rs.126 crore. The LED bulbs would be replaced under Public Private partnership (PPP) mode and the government will invite applications for selection.
