Krishna River boat tragedy – Three more arrested

The police arrested three persons after a week of the boat tragedy in Krishna River in which 21 tourists were killed. The search operations were called off Boat mishap – search operations called off on November 14, 2017

According to police sources the arrested included ill fated boat driver Gedela Suri Babu who was allegedly responsible for the tragic incident. The other arrested are Tadela Rama Rao (helper), Pulusu Harshavardhan Reddy (who invested on the boat) . With these fresh arrests, the total had gone to 10.

The Joint Commissioner of Police B.V.Ramana Kumar said that the trio escaped from the spot after the mishap. It may be recalled that the West Zone police are investigating the case and arrested the trio.

It may be recalled that a boat carrying about 40 tourists from Bhavani Island to Pavitra Sanghamam in the river overturned after it hid a sand dune in the river.

The officials of the Vigilance Department today found absence of registration papers for the tourist boats being operated by the Forest Department at the Coringa wildlife sanctuary and suspended their operation till the registration is done. Of the nine boats being allocated to the sanctuary, four boats were under repair and the remaining five boats were being used to take the tourists into the sea.
