Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa passed away on Monday night at 11.30pm after fighting for life for 74 days.
The general secretary of AIADMK leader did not respond to emergency life support treatment administered to her after she suffered cardiac arrest. Jayalalithaa’s health condition is extremely grave by the evening.
The body of Jayalalithaa was being taken to ‘Veda Nilayam’, her residence in Poes Garden and the mortal remains kept at the historic Rajaji Hall on Tuesday to enable the public to pay homage.
Sasikala Natarajan, her trusted aide of over three decades who was by side since her admission into the Apollo Hospital left for Poes Garden. The death plunged the State and the party into grief. AIADMK cadres and other members of the public who had massd outside the hospital inconsolably beating their chests as the news was announced after weeks of anxiety. The State declared a seven day mourning and a holiday for educational institutions for thre3 days. The national flag of the AIADMK would be flown at half-mast as a mark of mourning.
The Appolo Hospitals in a bulletin said ‘ Despite our best efforts, the Honourable Chief Minister’s underlying conditions rendered her unable to recover and she passed away at 11.30pm, today’.
AIADMK leader O.Pannerselvam is the Chief Minister for third time:: Amidst a pall of gloom following Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s death, senior AIADMK leader O.Pannerselvam was elected the leader of the Legislature Party shortly after Monday midnight and sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Naidu for the third time. He was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Ch.Vidyasagar Rao. Earlier, he was the Chief Minister during 2001-02 and 2014-15 after Jayalalithaa was unseated by the courts.
