Jagan launches two days ‘rythu deeksha’

Monday, May 1, 2017

YSRCP president Y.S.Jagan Mohan Reddy today on May Day launched his two day ‘rythu deeksha’ to highlight the problems being faced by the farmers near Guntur chilli yard.

Jagan made a frontal attack on the TDP government saying that Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s government had reneged on all poll promise made to farmers. He touched the issues relating to the crisis in farming fueled by a steep fall in prices driving the farmers to face the brunt of market vagaries, natural disasters and fluctuations in volatile global markets. He said that the government instead of coming to address the issues of farmers had failed to disburse input subsidy of Rs.4,394 crore for the last three years. He said that no one knows the poll-eve promise of creating a market stabilization fund of Rs.5,000 crore.

Jagan Reddy demanded that the report on farm reforms headed by former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in 2010 be made public. He said that Chandrababu now pretended that he had never known about the report and about the recommendations of agricultural expert M.S.Swaminathan.

Support Price for chilli farmers:: Jagan slammed the recent government’s price support scheme for chilli farmers and said that it had only benefitted the commission agents. The scheme that envisaged a support price of Rs.1,500 over the prevailing prices was full of loopholes. He said that the scheme is only for chilli produce which fetches below Rs.8,000 per quintal? The farmer gets support for only 20 quintals. Instead, the government could have procured chilli through Markfed, a move which would have ensured competition among private players, he said.
