JNU Students Union president Kanhaiya Kumar will deliver a keynote address on the ‘Anti Communalism’ meeting here at Siddhartha Academy auditorium on March 24. Speaking to media on Tuesday, AISF leaders said if it is a a meter of concern that communal forces are trying to make inroads in the universities and using power to oppress the students who are speaking against such a development. The meeting would be attended by students’ union leaders, some professors and others.
Denied entry into the campus
The security personnel posted at UoH has denied entry of Kanhaiya Kumar. ‘The voice of students cannot be suppressed with a lathicharge and sending them to hospital. This is a fight against attack on democracy and on the Constitution. This is a fight for freedom against casteism’, he said addressing the students at the outside gate of UoH. He further said that it was on this day that freedom fighter and revolutionary Bhagat Singh was hanged and that is why he chose to visit UoH on the day to honour the sacrifice of Rohit Vemula. He demanded the need for a Rohit Act to end discrimination on the campuses.
25 students and two professors held
Meanwhile, the Cyberabad police has arrested 25 students and two faculty members in connection with the Tuesday’s violence. They were produced before the Miyapur court and sent to judicial remand. Two cases were booked against them by the police. The cases filed includes damaging public property, trespass and preventing public officials from performing their duties.
