The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation has inked a concession agreement with the Jindal Infrastructure, Transportation, Fabrication (JITF) that sets up a waste-to-energy plant in Visakhapatnam.
GVMC Commissioner Pravin Kumar said that after entering into in-principle MoU with the JITF at the recently concluded Partnership Summit on Wednesday, they signed the concession agreement. Pravin Kumar and the representatives of the JITF exchanged the agreement documents. He said that GVMC promised to supply 950 tonnes of solid waste per day to the plant that would become operational within the next one and half years. The 15 MW plant would be constructed with Rs.150 crore and GVMC would provide land on a lease basis. The plant would be located at Gidijala village in Anandapuram mandal. There is a power purchase agreement between the APEPDCL and the plant management.
