Infosys techie Swati murder case – Accused Ramkumar commits suicide

Ram Kumar, the main accused in the sensational murder case of Infosys Software engineer S. Swathi (24) at the Nungambakkam railway station allegedly committed suicide by holding live electrical wire in Puzhal Central jail on Sunday evening.

Several political leaders including Leader of the Opposition M.K.Stalin demanded an independent probe into the alleged suicide suspecting foul play. The relatives of Ramkumar, advocates and cadre of outfits were denied to see the body of Ram Kumar at the Government Royapettah Hospital and blocked the roads bring the traffic to a standstill.

Police said that a warder of the prison heard a sound at around 4.30pm and rushed to find what happened and saw Ram Kumar was laying unconscious with a live electric wire in his mouth. After switching off the main power, the warder with the assistance of others rushed him to prison hospital where first aid was administrated and sent to Royapettah Hospital where Ram Kumar was brought dead.

DGP T.K. Rajendran said a magisterial inquiry would be ordered as is done in all cases of custodial deaths. Parrying questions on the allegations of foul play, he said the magisterial probe would address those issues.
