IFR: Rs.28 lakh for 700 fishermen for loss of work

The State Government has sanctioned Rs.28 lakhs for payment of compensation to 700 traditional fishermen for loss of income during operational display of Indian Navy and other participating navies during the International Fleet Review (IFR). They will be paid Rs.400 per day for 10 days and the compensation will be paid to them within ten days. The Joint Director of Fisheries said that there is no ban on fishing and only there is timing restriction for mechanized boats. The mechanized boats have been asked not to return to the shore or set out on a voyage from 2pm to 7pm during the IFR when the operations for four days from February 4.

100 stalls at IFR village:: IFR Village and the Maritime Exhibition that is being held on the AU Engineering College grounds in which 100 stalls will be put up by both government and private organizations. Food stalls and stalls displaying handicrafts, handlooms and other products would be open from February 2.

Addl. DGP reviews:: Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) R.P.Thakur on Thursday reviewed the arrangement being made by the police for the event. He held discussions with the Commissioner of Police Amit Garg and others. He expressed satisfaction over the arrangements.

Airport gets new look:: The Airport beautification project was taken up by the Airports Authority of India in association with the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority at a cost of Rs.3.22 crore. The lighting at the new terminal building has been improved and the front elevation has been redone, the building has been given a facelift with a fresh coat of paint and the internal roads have been re-carpeted. The terminal building would be illuminated from February 4 to 8 and additional lights have also been provide at the parking areas.
