ICAR plans a research institute in Srikakulam

The Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) is planning to set up a research institute of national importance on the Coast line of north Andhra.

Srikakulam MP K.Ram Manohar Naidu has appealed the ICAR to set up a national institute related to marine or fisheries sciences on the Srikakulam coast. Sources said that the Ram Manohar Naidu has underlined the need for setting up of an institute stating that Srikakulam district has the longest coastline of above 193 km but did not have any major academic or research institute till date.

Visakhapatnam has already three institutes related to the field of marine and fisheries sciences including National Institute of Oceanography. ICAR has sought reports from experts on the possibilities to set up a research institute in Srikakulam. Nuclear Power Corporation of India ltd., has proposed to set up a nuclear park at Kovvada on the coast.
