IAS officer BP Acharya gets relief in Jagan DA case

Hyderabad High Court on Thursday gave relief to IAS officer B.P.Acharya by staying his trial and also granting him exemption from personal appearance before the special court of the Enforcement Directorate in a case against him in connection with the DA case of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy till April 26, 2016.

Justice Raja Elango dealing with the plea of Acharya to stay proceedings before the ED Court and grant him exemption from personal appearance before the court on March 28. The counsel for Acharya T.Praduymna Kumar Reddy said that the ED registered a case under Prevention of Money Laundering Act alleging that his client allotted 75 acres of land to three companies – Aurbindo Pharma, Hetero and Trident Life Science in the capacity and Managing Director of APIIC without taking approval from the Managing Committee of the APIIC. He said that the charges that his client caused loss to the exchequer by allotting land at the rat eof Rs.7 lakh per acre despite the market value per acre being Rs.15 lakh were baseless. Opposing the plea, P.S.P.Suresh Kumar, counseling appearing for the ED said that there was no permission or sanction required for the ED to lodge a complaint before the appeal court against a government servant.
