High court put on hold counselling in NTR and Kaloji universities

Thursday, August 17, 2017

A Division Bench of the Hyderabad High Court comprising of Justice V.Ramasubramanian and Justice T.Rajani today directed the authorities to put on hold the common counselling for admission to super specialties courses in medicine only in so far as the seats in the colleges affiliated to NTR and Kaloji health universities.

The Division Bench passed the interim orders in connection with a writ petition filed by Satish Kumar and others. The petitioners challenged a letter issued by Centre directing the universities to conduct a common counselling for all seats of NEET-Super Speciality-2017 at the national level. The petitioners contended that admission to professional courses in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh were governed by the Presidential Order issued in exercise of the power conferred by Article 371-D of the Constitution and that since these Presidential Orders are to have effect notwithstanding anything contained in any other part of the Constitution, the respondents are not entitled to conduct a common counselling at the national level.
