High Court to monitor SIT investigation in Ayesha Meera case

A Division Bench of the Hyderabad High Court comprising of Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice Uma Devi today announced that it would monitor the reinvestigation in the case of Ayesha Meera murder case by the SIT.

Dealing with a Public Interest Litigation petition filed by three women activists along with a writ petition filed by the girl’s parents.

It may be recalled that Ayesha Meera, a B.Pharmacy student was raped and killed I her hostel in 2007 near Vijayawada and the police claimed that Satyam Babu killed her. He was convicted by the district ad sessions court and awarded life.

A Bench of the High Court acquitted him and pulled up the police and ordered for re-investigation into the case. The parents and women activists filed cases in the High Court seeking re-investigation and monitoring by the court. The State government constituted a SIT and that orders were necessary from the High Court for re-investigation.

SIT is headed by Visakha Range DIG Srikanth and Hymavathi, Sri Lakshmi both DSPs and SI of Nunna police station, Saherunnisa. The Bench said that the court would monitor the investigation and the members of the SIT should not be transferred.
