High Court fines Rs.5 lakh to Postal Department for negligence

The High Court has slapped a fine of Rs.5 lakhs to the Postal department for its negligence in not delivering the MBBS application send by post by a student to the concerned resulting in losing his MBBS seat.

The Division Bench comprising of Justice V.Ramasubramani.N and Justice J.Umadevi delivered the judgement directing the postal department to pay the amount of Rs.5 lakh to the student within eight weeks.

Going into details, one Sai Kumar has applied for MBBS seat and sent the application through speed post on 16.9.2016 to Delhi and found through online tracking that it reached the concerned on 19.2.2016. The last date for submission being 7.10.2016 and found his name missing the list of candidates. He approached the High Court.

ESI officials confirmed that Sai Kumar Reddy application was received on 18.10.2016 by that time the last date for submission has come to an end. The court found fault with the Postal department in not getting the same delivered on time resulting in the loss of MBBS seat. The postal department argued that due to heavy inflow of letter bags the delay took place and they are not subjected to any punishment as per Indian Post Office Act which was dismissed.
