Tuesday, October 23, 2018

Justice M.S.Ramachandra Rao of Hyderabad High Court today directed the Government of Andhra Pradesh to hold elections to gram panchayats within three months.

Dealing with a writ petition filed by some former sarpanches seeking to declare the appointment of special officers to gram panchayats as unconstitutional and arbitrary, the judge said that the special officers appointed through GO No.90 can be allowed to continue for three months. He, however , did not allow the prayer of the petitioners to permit them to continue as persons in charge of the gram panchayats concerned.

Meanwhile, Chandrababu Naidu said that the government was ready to hold the elections. He said that the elections could not be conducted due to issues relating to reservations.
