The HCU is on the boil following Ph.D Dalit Student Rohit Vemula who committed suicide on January 17. It sent heat weaves across the country and students of various universities are on agitating mode demanding justice including suspension of Vice Chancellor and removal of two Union Ministers Bandaru Dattatreya and Smriti Irani. The students oppose the appointment of Srivastava as the in-charge on the grounds that he was chairman of the committee which recommended suspension of the five students. He also faced allegations of harassing a Dalit research scholar from Tamil Nadu, Senthial Kumar who committed suicide in 2008.
