Government to construct community toilets in Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts

The State government is focussing on construction of community toilets in slect villages of Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts.

Vizianagaram District Collector Vivek Yadav directed the ZP CEO N.Venkateswara Rao and mandal-level officials to construct 653 community toilets in select villages as part of the steps to achieve ‘Open Defecation Free’ status for the district by February next year. The district administration will sanction Rs.6 lakh for each community toilet and provide water connections. Local panchayats will have to maintain them properly.

The District Collector said that the aim is to construct 2.7 lakh individual toilets by February. so far, we could provide the facility to 54% of households in the district. With the construction of both individual and community toilets, we are planning to achieve cent per cent target’.

Meanwhile, Srikakulam district administration too has geared up to achieve the Swachh Andhra Pradesh target. The government could construct only 29,258 toilets as against the target of 2.93 lakh in the district.
