Andhra Pradesh State government restricts air travel by IAS officers between Hyderabad and Vijayawada saying flight charges are expensive but it is allowing the same IAS officers to go abroad in the name of promoting investments in the State.

It is worth noting that the State Government is spending crores of rupees by sending IAS officers to various foreign countries to promote investment, it objects air travel between Hyderabad and Vijayawada saying that it would save thousands of rupees. It may be noted that the Chief Minister and his team have spent Rs.2 crore for his Davos visit. The State Government led by Chandrababu Naidu has spent nearly Rs.100 crore after it came to power in June 2014 for foreign visits by the All India Service officers, ministers and the Chief Minister.

Sources said that the State Government proposed to run two Garuda buses between Hyderabad and Vijayawada for IAS officers to attend review meetings. A month ago, the State Government had issued circular to all IAS officers imposing austerity measures and were directed to travel by bus or train. They were also directed not to hold meetings in star hotels and instead stay in government or tourism department guest houses. Some IAS officers see no merit in the ban on air travel for officials between Hyderabad and Vijayawada.
