Gastroenteritis toll mounts to eight – water tankers to be pressed into service

With the outbreak of gastroenteritis in several areas in Guntur, the Guntur Municipal Corporation is making all its efforts to control the spread of gastroenteritis.

Three more persons viz. Sk.Ghouse, Koti Reddy, K.Padmavati died in various hospitals due to the disease. All those who have died since Monday complaints of watery diarrhoeas, muscle cramps and severe dehydration. Unprecedented scenes were witnessed at the super speciality block of the Government General Hospital as more than 100 men and women were being treated. Duty doctors and nurses were seen struggling to cope with the enormous influx of patients and in some cses, women patients were seen sharing the bed.

District Collector and Special Officer, Government Medical College convened an emergency meeting and instructed the officials concerned to stop water supply from the BR Stadium reservoir. The District Collector directed the GMC to ensure supply of waters through tankers. A team of 300 nurses was conducting door-to-door visits of the ten wards in Anandapet.
