Garikapati Narasimha Rao bags Lok Nayak Foundation Award

Prominent scholar and Maha Sahasravadani Garikapati Narasimha Rao will be conferred with Lok Nayak Foundation Award. The award will be presented to him at a function here on January 23, 2016. A cash prize of Rs.1.5 lakhs along with a citation will be given to him.

The foundation’s Life Time Achievement Award comprising Rs.50,000 will be presented to trade union leader Chalasani Gandhi who worked tirelessly for the welfare of Railway employees and workers, Mr. Lakshmi Prasad said.

The awards will be presented by CVC K.V. Chowdary, Supreme Court judge Justice Chalameswar, Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal Chairman Goda Raghuram and GITAM President M.V.V.S. Murthy at a function here.

Garikipati Narasimha Rao::Garikipati Narasimha Rao "Maha Sahasraavadhani" is a Telugu Avadhani (literary performer) in Andhra Pradesh, India. He was born in Brahmin community, Kakinada, East Godavari, Andhra Pradesh, India.

He has conducted more than 288 avadhanams, including Dvigunita Avadhanam at Dallas for the American Telugu Association in 2002. Garikipati is known for his Dhāraṇā (memorising and reciting), which is a key requirement for performing Avadhanams. Garikipati has been awarded titles such as Satavadhhana Geeshpati, Avadhana Sarada, and Dharanaa Brahma Raakshasa.

He was awarded a Gold Medal by the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. T. Rama Rao, for standing first in Masters of Philosophy, and received Pratibhaa Puraskaaram, both from Telugu University. Past awardees included Gollapudi Maruthi Rao, P.Lalitha Kumari Vanguri Chitten Raju, J.Hanumanth Sastry, Dr.C.V.Subbanna Satavadhani, Avantsa Soma Sudhakar, Ravuri Bharadwaja, Kalipatnam Rama Rao, Smt.Vasireddy Sita Devi. Boyi Bhimanna and Smt and Sri N.R.Chandur & Malathi Chandur.
