GVMC staff plans for series of protests demanding payment of salaries under 010 Account

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation not materializing the promises it had given, GVMC Staff and Workers’ Union has chalked out a series of protests from February 24.

Union general secretary V.Vamana Rao said that 70 per cent of the GVMC’s revenue is going towards salaries and pension. The GVMC was able to spend Rs.100 crore on capital expenditure and another Rs.100 crore on maintenance work. An amount of Rs.253 crore was going towards salaries and pensions, he said. Vamana Rao said that the government had agreed for payment of salaries would be paid under 010 Account but there was no mention of it in the draft budget proposals.

  • February 24, a fast will be organized from 10am to 5pm at the Gandhi Statue near the GVMC.
  • February 25, ‘palabhishekam’ will be performed to NTR’s statue at Ramnagar and a memorandum submitted seeking a change in mind of Chief Minister.
  • February 26, a protest with black flags in the sea would be organized.
  • February 27, an all party-meeting on the issue at Public Library will be held.
