The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) was selected for the first Smart Cities Mission award.
GVMC Commissioner Pravin Kumar informed that they were invited to participate in the 3rd Smart Cities Summit 2016 to be held in Mumbai on February 10. He said that their successful participation in the earlier summits both in August 2014 and February 2015 and round-table conferences with experts paved a way for the award. He said that the GVMC was selected for the award in e-Governance, mobility, sanitation and solid waste management categories. He said that they have received a letter inviting for participation in the summit and also to receive the award in Mumbai.
‘Smart cities selection was done on merit’, says Venkaiah Naidu
Union Minister for Urban Development M.Venkaiah Naidu said that the Smart Cities selection was done in a transparent manner. He said that by conducting the IFR on a grand scale, the brand image of the city has reached the greater heights. He said that the list was finalized only after assessing the cities’ credibility and do-ability. The rest of the cities would be included in the Smart Cities Mission in the next list.
