English medium in all Municipal Schools from this academic year

The Director of Municipal Administration K.Kannababu has issued orders to make English medium in all Municipal Schools mandatory from this year.

In the orders, he directed the Municipal Commissioners and School Headmasters to make necessary arrangement for the same. English medium school books have already been despatched to the concerned authorities. It is made clear that those students appearing for SSC examinations this year are exempted from taking up English medium.

Protests over introduction of English medium:

Meanwhile, teachers’ associations have protested the introduction of English medium in municipal schools. They urged the government to exemption to those students willing to take up Telugu medium.

The Students Federation of India said that the decision to introduce English medium in municipal schools is to entrust the schools to corporate sector. With this decision, the number of drop outs will increase. A call has been given across the State demanding restoration of Telugu as medium of language.
