The Election Commission today on Wednesday announced the dates for Assembly Elections for the States of Punjab, Goa, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh and Goa.
The Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi said that defence personnel, central paramilitary personnel who were away from their homes can cast their votes through one-way electronic transmission in the polls. The EC said that the candidates will have to submit a ‘No Demand Certificate’ from agencies providing amenities and government accommodation. The candidates will be required to file a no demand certificate from agencies dealing with electricity, water, telephone and also the rent certificate of the government accommodation to these candidates may have occupied in the last ten years.
Election Commission has decided to limit the cash donations from Rs.20,000 to Rs.2,000 and added that any candidate found violating the Supreme Court order barring appeals for votes along religious and caste lines.
The polling will be done in one phase in Goa, Punjab and Uttarakhand while in Manipur it will be in two phase polling. UP will have polling in seven phases that will begin on February 11 and ends on March 8. The polling will start on Februaryruary 4 with polling in Goa and Punjab, and will end on March 8 in Uttar Pradesh. The counting of votes for these assembly elections will begin on March 11.
