With the recent two suicides of two women medicos of Sri Venkateswara Medical College along with another suicide attempt by a student of Sri Padmavati Medical College for Women in a span of one week, the distict administration has decided to evolve an action plan to deal with the suicides.
Chittoor District Collector P.S.Pradyumna has constituted a committee to formulate a comprehensive course of action involving the medical college principals and hospital superintendents with SVIMS Director cum Vice Chancellor T.S.Ravi Kumar s the coordinator.
SVMC Principal G.Ravi Prabhu said on Tuesday that their main emphasis would be on coming up with a programme to identify the behavioural patterns of students in the initial stages and subsequently channel it via a proper forum of experts. ‘As a first step, we are conduction a sensitisation programme – Say No to Suicide- for students to spread awareness on the issue.
Terming the recent incidents as unfortunate, SVMC Department of Psychiatry Professor and Head N.Nageswara Rao aid the prime cause of student suicides was untreated depression. .
