The Delhi government has offered a Grade IV job to Vemula Raja Chaitanya Kumar, younger brother of deceased Dalit scholar Rohit Vemula who committed suicide on UoH.

The government has issued a memorandum on March 30 offering a temporary Grade IV job, a group C level post as a special case to Raja Vemula on compassionate grounds in the Pay scale of Rs.5,200-20,200 with Grade pay of Rs.1,900 along with allowances.

Sources said that according to Supreme Court orders, only a Grade IV job can be offered on compassionate grounds. The job offered to Raja is the highest that the Delhi government can give it on compassionate grounds sand an official. When a job is offered on compassionate ground, the person doesn’t have to go through the selection process. The Services Department in its offer letter has given two weeks’ time to Raja to send his acceptance letter to the government.

This came followed by Rohit Vemula’s mother Radhika’s request to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in February. She also asked him to help her family to shift out of Telangana. Sources said that the Chief Minister has assured that the day ‘ he joins the service, we will provide him and his family an accommodation in the city. The ais is to help the family tide over financial distress’.
