The Hyderabad civil court on Monday issued interim orders to maintain status quo on the campus on the beef and pork festivals which are scheduled to be held on the Osmania University campus till December 31.
An injunction petition was filed by an advocate and research scholar of OU S.Janardhan Goud. The petitioner said that both the festivals could ‘desecrate’ academic environment. He quoted a circular issued by the University denying permission for the beef festival and gau puja, the petitioner said that these festivals were ruining the image of the University. The court also asked the city police to ensure that law and order was maintained on the campus.
The organizers of the festivals have decided to approach a higher court.
Row over the event in Tirupati
Meanwhile BJP raised its voice against the reported move by some groups to conduct beef festival in Tirupati. The party’s state OBC Morcha President Jalli Madhusudhan said that the main concern was the need to protect the cow to improve public health and strengthen the rural economy. He made it clear that the party would not object to individuals tastes and preferences, he appealed to the people to restrict their eating habits to home instead of spilling it out with public events like ‘beef festivals’ which could hurt the sentiments of many communities.
