The Magistrate court at Bhimadole in West Godavari sentenced the government Whip and Denduluru MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar to a total of three year imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.2,500 in connection with a 2011 case.
According to prosecution, the then Minister Vatti Vasanth Kumar filed a complaint accusing Prabhakar of assaulting him a public during a Gram Sabha in Denduluru in 2011. The police had filed cases against him u/s 506, 353 and 332 read with section 34 of the IPC and Section 7(1) of Criminal Law Amendment Act, 1932.
The Magistrate while sentencing Prabhakar gave him one-month time to file an appeal in a higher court. In the event of his failure, he would be sent to jail, said the Judge.
Chintamaneni Prabhakar speaking to media said that the case against him was politically motivated and filed illegally after he questioned the violation of protocol by the then minister and officials. Though cases were filed against 12 others in the same incident, one he was convicted, he pointed out. It may be noted that Prabhakar was in the news off and on for his alleged high-handed behavior particularly with government officials and police personnel. According to sources, there were 42 cases mostly of assault and the like are pending against him.
